Comments:
I belive that colleges works painting has opened my eyes to the Real entrepenurial world. This is a house painting compnay that aims to allow students to run their own house painting business. As a branch manager you are selected to represent your home town, or the town you will be living in over the summer. There are numerous marketing, finance and managing workshops one must attend in order to understand what you will go through and how to manage this company. The branch manager begins from scratch and must do EVERYTHING to get the company going. The manager attends different workshops and then takes what they learn to the feild. The marketing is done all vy the branch manager. So they go from house to house asking the different resident if they would like a free estimate for their house. The company intensly trains the manager on how to correctly estimate. Once you estimate the house one must go inside and convince the residents on WHY they NEED to get their house painted.
This internship has been one of the most intense and hardworking jobs I have ever had. I made the mistake or hiring my freinds as my painters and they were hard to manage. I would sometimes work, about 11-13 hours a day, and this included daily site management, custermer service and finalizing all papers and contracts by the end of the day. One must complete a dialy site watch with the resident and show them the progression of the days work.
This internship really showed me how to manage my time and my employees. Unfortunately Colege Works Painting did not pay me nearly enough for the work I did. Although it is the branch managers job to correctly allocate the daily payments for the paint, tool and hourly wages for the painters, the cmpnay did not help me enough and I did NOT MAKE ALMOST ANY MONEY. I ran a 42,000 dollar company and I only made about 2000 dollars. This did not even come close to the amount of money I spend on gas for my car and my cell phone bill, which in july ended up being 600 dollars.
This intership taught me an increadible amount of this that will advance my career as a manager in the future. BUT it did not pay well and although the promise the Branch Manager that this is a job where you WILL earn a great salary, it is far from true, at least your first year of the intership.
