Comments:
This internship will put your leadership, organizational, and time management skills to the test. After a few interviews, you'll either be rejected (most likely) or accepted to take on the responsibility. You'll be grouped with anywhere from five to fifteen newcomers under the leadership of your District Manager (someone who's been through the program for at least a year). You'll go through many hours worth of training, have to fill out a bunch of forms, and read a few hundred pages worth of material.
While you're in school, you spend every weekend going back home to go door-to-door trying to get leads (homeowner's information). You can expect to get one lead for every 25 houses you visit. During the school week you go to weekly meetings with your group and also one-on-one meets and spend about an hour calling your leads to set up painting estimate dates. Alongside all of that, you'll also need to get marketers who will go door-to-door for you so you can spend your time doing the estimates.
You'll do your first few estimates with your District Manager so you can get the hang of the estimate process. An estimate takes anywhere from one to four hours depending on how comfortable you and the client become when small-talking. You are expected to book a job (the client pays the down payment) the same day as the estimate for the most efficient use of your time. Before school lets out, you're expected of getting about 10 leads and 6 estimates completed per week.
When school is over everything is kicked into high gear. You need to be out getting leads everyday and completing anywhere from five to ten or even more estimates per week. At this point, you should be booking at least 1/4 of your estimates. You'll then be expected to hire a group of painters to work for you since you won't be doing much painting yourself. It is normal to go through a lot of marketers and painters throughout the whole internship. You'll have more meetings to go to along with pay-role Fridays which will occur every other friday and you'll receive an average of 20% of the estimate price as profit.
There are numerous prizes you can earn by doing extremely well.
Expect to put more into your business than what you earn at first as you can easily spend hundreds of dollars in gas alone in the first few months. Only at the very end of the internship will you actually be making a personal profit.
This internship is only for those who are ready to commit the majority of their summer to selling exterior house painting.
